Baron Edmond - Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons

Baron Edmond - Rupert Rothschild Vignerons

After resting in French oak barrels, the South Africa Western Cape Red Baron Edmond, from Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons, proves to be as harmonious on the nose as it is on the palate. If one has the patience to wait for it for a while, perhaps even for a decade, it could provide pleasant surprises.

Tasting Notes: Intense ruby red to the eye. The olfactory bouquet is composed of hints of dark berry fruit, followed by tertiary aromas of chocolate, coffee and tobacco. On the palate it is medium-bodied and confirms the nose. Excellent persistence and finish.

Pairing: It should be paired with red meat preparations. Try it with braised oxtail.

The Winery: From the collaboration between La Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild and the Rupert family, both of whom share a strong passion for wine, Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons was born in 1997. Situated in South Africa, at the foot of Simonsberg Mountain, the winery is located in the valley where, over three hundred years ago, the first French Huguenots moved to cultivate vines, having found in this area a similar terrain to some of the wine regions of France. In addition to producing high quality wines, Rupert & Rothschild is very careful to preserve and respect the environment, a philosophy that is also reflected in the cellar, where the grapes only arrive if they are in their optimal state of health and ripeness. Vinification involves minimal artificial intervention, and barriques, French oak barrels or cement vats are used to age the wines. Three labels in all at the moment: one pure chardonnay and two reds from blends of international varieties.
