The Distillery: Born from a simple idea by Anderson Bakewell, who after spending several decades in close contact with the island itself and with the inhabitants of his community, came to think of literally "bottling" the elusive spirit of the island of Harris, so as to get to share it with the whole world. In reality, in addition to the poetic and romantic intent, there are also other purposes behind the birth of the "Isle of Harris" distillery. Over the decades, in fact, Anderson himself, together with many other islanders, has sadly witnessed a continuous exodus of young people from the island, who after leaving their homeland to seek their fortune elsewhere, have not been able to able to return home, thus giving rise to a process that saw the island population halve. For this reason Anderson came to think that a distillery could represent an important reason to stop this continuous and constant exodus. From theory Anderson moved on to practice, and after uniting around him a group of people who all thought the same way, he got to work until September 24, 2015, the day on which for the first time the doors of the “Isle of Harris Distillery” have officially opened.
